Test Process Overview

Test script runs hourly to each site:

• Traceroute (1 way) (where permitted)
• Number if hops -- shows route stability --> Hops Chart
• Pings (where permitted)
• 100 pings prior to and/or during the thruput test
• Round Trip Time --> RTT Chart
• Packet Loss --> Packet Loss Chart
• TCP Throughput
• Iperf, SCP, nuttcp, SFTP, or FTP --> Thruput Chart
• requires cooperating client at destination
• Iperf / nuttcp keeps send buffer full for 30 Seconds
• SCP, FTP, and SFTP send fixed size files
• Alternatives:
• Netstat --> packets retransmitted (if pings blocked)
• TCPping can measure TCP RTT, works with datasink server
• web100 can measure RTT, packet loss on selected sources
• bwctl; used to schedule iperf, where required
